I’m sure you remember being a kid and hating it when your parents asked you to help them with chores around the house. Well, that’s something that hasn’t really changed too much over time. Kids still hate doing chores just as much as you did back in the day. That’s why Heritage Learning Center wants to give you a few ideas on how to make chores fun for preschoolers, so your children will be more excited about helping you instead of groning every time you ask them for help.

Hide Things for Them to Find

Hiding things that your child can enjoy after they’ve finished a chore is a great way for them to get excited about something like dusting. As they dust, they can uncover little treasures that you’ve hidden around like candy or money, and once they’ve finished dusting, they can enjoy all of the things that they’ve found!

Create an Award System

Tracking who does what chores and when is a good way to, well, keep track of chores, but you can also use it to create an award system for your kids! Make a chart with chores assigned to each child, and when a child completes one of their tasks, they put a sticker on the chart! Whoever has the most stickers at the end of the week can receive something like the “Helper of the Week” award. This is a simple idea, so feel free to make it your own!

Turning Cleaning into a Scavenger Hunt

Is your house a little messy with stray items hanging around? Do you want your kids to help you clean up the space? Then make a scavenger hunt out of picking up the area! Create a list of the items you see laying around and ask your kids to “hunt” for these items. The winner is the one who picks up the most items and returns them to their rightful place.

Set a Time Limit

A time limit might not sound very fun, but when you tell the kids that they have 10 minutes to pick up as much as they can, it will feel like a race to them. They’ll have more fun doing it than you think! This is a perfect option for the end of the day when you want to tidy the house a little before everyone goes to bed. And, now you don’t have to clean up all of their toys and your belongings by yourself!
