Phonemic awareness is important for children to understand, and you can help with these fun tips.
Pretend you are going on a trip and tell them to bring items that start with the same sound. For instance, sandwiches, socks and slippers.
Another fun activity is having the child talk in slow motion. Give the child a word and have them say it slowly. This allows them to focus on the different sounds in the word.
You can also play a game in which the child jumps for each different sound. For instance, in the word “cup,” they jump when they hear the “c,” “u” and “p” sounds.
