Best Childcare McKinneyIf you are in search of the best childcare Valentine art activities, look no further than the craft ideas below.

Heart Crayons

Here’s what you need:

  • Heart-shaped silicone molds
  • Crayons

Here’s what to do:

  1. Take the labels off of the crayons.
  2. Break the crayons into pieces small enough to fit into the molds.
  3. Fill each heart mold with crayon pieces that are similar to colors of crayons. By putting too many different colors together, the color will become muddy when the crayons melt.
  4. Bake in the oven for about twelve minutes at 250-degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the crayon hearts to cool.
  6. Once the pan is cool, remove the crayon hearts from the molds.

Salt Dough Hearts

Here’s what you need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Food coloring
  • String
  • Small heart-shaped cookie cutter

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Mix all the flour and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Slowly add the water to the dry mixture, mixing the ingredients as you pour. You want a dough consistency so you may not need to add all of the water.
  3. If your dough becomes too runny add a little more flour.
  4. Once your dough is thoroughly combined, separate it into smaller portions to color it.
  5. Place one of the portions onto a piece of waxed paper.
  6. Add a couple of drops of food coloring to the dough.
  7. Knead the dough until the coloring is consistently blended.
  8. Place the dough aside and continue coloring the other portions with other colors.
  9. When all of the portions have been colored, you can either leave them with one pigment or knead them all together to create a large portion of marbled dough.
  10. Use your dough to create heart-shaped ornaments either to be hung on string as ornaments or used in the checker board game below.
  11. If you are making ornaments, be sure to create a small hole in the top for the string.
  12. Place the dough hearts on a baking sheet and heat in the oven for about two hours at 200-degrees Fahrenheit.
  13. Keep an eye on the hearts to make sure they do not become brown.

Heart Checker Board

Here’s what you need:

  • Red cardstock paper
  • Scissors
  • Small paper or salt dough hearts
  • Black marker
  • Ruler

Here’s what to do:

  1. Draw a large heart onto the red cardstock.
  2. Use the scissors to cut out the heart.
  3. Use the black marker and ruler to draw a checker board game pattern onto the heart.
  4. Add the paper or salt dough hearts to the game, and you’re ready to play.

Heart Pencil Toppers

Here’s what you need:

  • Pencils
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Beads

Here’s what to do:

  1. Wrap one-half of a pipe cleaner around the top of a pencil.
  2. Add some beads to the other end of the pipe cleaner and then bend it into a heart shape.
  3. Pass out these toppers as quick and easy Valentine gifts for students and teachers alike.
